Sincere Salutations, Wholetonians!

As promised, you are the first to hear about the latest developments from Planet Wholetonia (which is actually my studio/office :)). The next clue about what’s coming down the pike is … APPS!

Yes, in the very near future, you will be able to access Wholetones via my brand new app. This app is very exciting—it will allow you to get your Wholetones music downloaded "lickity split" onto ALL of your devices. Plus, it is simple to use. More on this soon … you are going to love it!

I really appreciate your feedback, and you will see much of what you asked for implemented in 2018. Thank you for all of your thoughtful suggestions! Now, let’s say we peruse this week’s musing, “Never Give Up.”

Never. Never, Never give up! –Winston Churchill

Never. Never, Never give up! –Winston Churchill

Just over a month ago, I had the pleasure of seeing the film Darkest Hour. Being a huge fan of Winston Churchill, I was anxious to see how actor Gary Oldman would portray him. l was immediately captivated, feeling as though I was actually seeing fresh footage of Churchill himself! Churchill’s unrelenting resolve against seemingly impossible odds was the impetus behind this email, and leads me to share a personal story with you.

Several years ago, when my wife and I lived in Nashville, I worked at Belmont Church. A member of the congregation (we will call him “Phil”) came up to me after Sunday service and asked if I could stop by his office on Monday. Phil was a well-known businessman in town, and I couldn’t wait to see what he needed to talk with me about.

18 Inches

18 Inches

When I arrived at Phil’s office, he asked me to sit down across from him, and my eyes immediately focused on a plaque on his desk declaring "18 inches." Noticing the focus of my attention, Phil shared the following story with me.

"Michael, a few years ago I was approached by a "wild cat" drilling operation. The head geologist stated that he believed there was a considerable amount of oil on a parcel that I owned, and since I also owned the mineral rights, he asked me if I would be interested in doing some preliminary exploration to see if his claims were valid. I agreed."

"After the core samples were analyzed, the geologist, who was very excited, told me that the tests were extremely positive! In fact, the geologist said he believed that this could be one of the largest oil finds in US history. So, I went to the bank and borrowed $10 million dollars."

"The drilling crew set up the following week. Each day as they drilled, I thought I would see a giant gusher erupt from the hole on my land, but so far, nothing. After weeks of drilling, the geologist told me it could be “any day now,” but I had exhausted all of the money."

"In my heart, I knew the oil was there, so I borrowed another $2 million dollars. When oil-laden samples came up, I knew it was close, but once again, I was out of money. At the same time, a Japanese firm offered me $15 million dollars for my property. Because I didn’t have the stomach to continue, I sold them the property."

"When the drilling team from the Japanese firm started drilling, they sent that auger bit just 18" deeper and hit the second largest oil find in US history!!!"

Then Phil looked at me with tears in his eyes, stood up, and bellowed, "MICHAEL TYRRELL, DON’T YOU EVER GIVE UP!" As my eyes filled with tears, I told Phil that I wouldn’t, we hugged, and I left … completely numb, yet totally encouraged.

If I may, let me return that sentiment to you. No matter what you are going through, come hell or high water, impossible odds, or deadlines, DON’T YOU EVER GIVE UP!!!! YOU MAY BE ONLY 18” FROM YOUR BREAKTHROUGH—YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO STOP NOW.

Dear friends, I believe this is a timely word for someone reading this email today. The best is yet to come, be there when it does!

1 Corinthians 2: 9-10, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Always follow your heart and the direction of the Spirit…and once you have obtained your word, NEVER GIVE UP…period! Until next week …

Be Whole,
Michael S. Tyrrell
